Former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier put on a clinic in his fight against Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 257.

Dustin Poirier knocked out Conor McGregor in the second round to avenge his loss to the Irishmen from their first fight which took place back in 2014 at UFC 178. Back then, McGregor had knocked out Poirier in the first round.

Poirier executed his game plan perfectly and invested in low calf kicks early in the fight and also managed to score a takedown early in the fight. While he also ate a couple of hard shots from McGregor early on, he ultimately the calf kicks caught up to the Irishmen and he got knocked out for the first time in his professional MMA career.

Following his win, the popular opinion amongst fan is for him to fight Michael Chandler. The UFC newbie made his promotional debut in style as he knocked out Dan Hooker in a devastating fashion.

However, Dustin Poirier has stated that he has no interest in fighting Michael Chandler.

Respect to Chandler, great win over a guy,” Poirier said. “But to come in and beat a guy I just beat and get a title shot, dude, I’ve been in – what is this? – 27, 28 fights in the UFC trying everything, fighting the toughest guys to get my hands on gold. He should fight Charles Oliveira or something. Let Chandler and Oliveira go at it. That doesn’t really interest me at this point. I’ll go and sell hot sauce if that’s the case.”

Dustin Poirier interested in Conor McGregor trilogy

Meanwhile, as Poirier evened the score with Conor McGregor yesterday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, he revealed during the post-fight interview and post-fight press conference that he was interested in running it back against the Irishmen.

A rematch with Conor interests me,” Dustin Poirier said. “Always wanted to whip Nate Diaz’s ass. That interests me. In fighting, I’m sure something will make sense. But just right now, I don’t … me and Conor are one and one. Nate Diaz got away and likes to talk a lot of (expletive) online. I just gotta go back home and we’ll see.”

I feel like I’ve done it all, except, I feel like I can’t say I walked away, and I’m the champ, you know,” Poirier said. “I want to be the champ. When you’re the champ, you’re the champ forever, and I want to be the champ. But yeah, I’ve seen the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows in this sport.

Fighting is just something I do at this point in my career, but I honor this. I don’t take this lightly, man. I really respect the opportunity, and that’s why this is so close to my heart.” Dustin Poirier said.(H/T – MMAJunkie.com)
