UFC Lightweight fighter Dustin Poirier will be facing Conor Mcgregor in their trilogy fight at UFC 264 but before that, he decided to address the donation issue.

UFC 257: Conor McGregor stunned on return, beaten by Dustin Poirier via TKO in second round

Before their rematch in January, McGregor promised to donate $500,000 to Poirier’s The Good Fight Foundation. MMA Junkie confirmed with representatives from both teams the night before UFC 257 that banking information had been exchanged, and the last of the transfer details were being finalized. Then Poirier won the fight by second-round TKO, and according to “The Diamond,” the trail went cold.

Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) responded to McGregor’s (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) recent prediction that he would win the July 10 trilogy fight at UFC 264 by fourth-round knockout courtesy of a front kick. However, he added an extra layer by outing his rival for not having lived up to his promise of donating (via Twitter):

“That’s a fun prediction! @TheNotoriousMMA you also predicted a donation to my foundation and you and your team stopped responding after the fight in January.
See you soon.
July 10th Paid In Full!”

“We thanked him because his team reached out fight week to initiate the process but ghosted us the past 2 months after the fight. My foundation has reached out 3 times since with no reply. We’ve moved past it! We will be announcing our next goal soon! It’s a big one”

McGregor and his manager Audie Attar then fired back while refuting claims that he wasn’t going to donate but rather asking for details about where the money was going to be spent. The situation got so ugly that McGregor began teasing that he was no longer going to face Poirier in the trilogy at UFC 264.

Cooler heads eventually prevailed with McGregor vs. Poirier 3 now officially signed for July 10 but the former interim lightweight champion was compelled to address his public accusations about the donation to his charity.

“I am very passionate about my charity as you all know,” Poirier wrote on Twitter. “I jumped the gun and took my private matters between Conor and my foundation public. My mistake, we live, we learn. Spreading positivity and doing good is my goal.

“I feel like I have brought a negative energy and personal opinions into something I am working so hard on that gives people a reason to cheer and smile. I will take this in stride and continue to fight the good fight! New goal coming soon and it is a big one. Thank you to all who is involved and all the supporters who believe in our vision.”
