Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler, two of the best lightweight fighters of all time, are finally set to share the Octagon as the fight is reportedly being targeted for the upcoming UFC 281 event set to take place on 12th November at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The report was first made by Ariel Helwani, who cited that “multiple sources” have tipped him about Poirier vs. Chandler, also adding that the 155-pound bout is “close to being finalized,” and Poirier’s team is aiming for a five round contest at UFC 281.

Dustin Poirier vs. Michael Chandler is a rivalry that is just about to be set ablaze

Since the arrival of “Iron” to the UFC in January last year, the two have been often in conversations about squaring off. While the former three-time Bellator Lightweight Champion went for a title shot against Charles Oliveira, “The Diamond” was engaged in his second and third fight of the saga against Conor McGregor. The two have gone after one another verbally, including a heated confrontation at UFC 276.

“In his mind, he’s got some ill-will towards me if you will and it’s gonna make it that much easier to knock him out whenever he oversteps if he and I do step inside the Octagon, but I have not lost one minute of sleep thinking about Dustin Poirier, and I’m gonna keep on doing what I’m doing until the fight gets announced and then I’m gonna go out there and finish my next opponent and become UFC champion next year…,” Chandler spoke about Poirier at UFC London.

“It’s gonna be fun for you guys, it’s gonna be fun for me, it’s gonna be not fun for my wife. But I do think he and I are cut from the same cloth. All personal attacks aside, all personal vendettas aside, I respect him, he respects me,” Chandler added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
