Edson Barboza’s team point out an eye poke in the lead up to the KO loss he suffered to Justin Gaethje

While the fight between top lightweights Justin Gaethje and Edson Barboza barely only last a little more than two minutes, it was still so good and exciting that it is surely one of the early Fight of the Year contenders. However, even such a great fight has now come under a cloud of controversy. Barboza’s head coach, Anderson Franca recently shared an image of Barboza’s eye, which was completely red due to an early eye poke by Gaethje.

Franca praised Gaethje and stated that he respects him and his team a lot. However, he did question whether the result of the fight, he believed that it would have been a lot different if not for that eye poke. Here’s what he had to say:

I really think this fight would have been one of the best fights of the year, Justin Gaethje is an excellent fighter. He’s certainly among the world’s best. We have a lot of respect for him and his team. I don’t know if the result would have been different or not, but I believe the fight would have been much longer if it wasn’t for this incident. We appreciate everyone’s love. I can guarantee we gave it 100 percent to represent our country. A big hug to everyone.
