High-level wrestler Eldar Eldarov can often be seen cornering KHK MMA fighters in Brave events around the world, as their head coach. However, he is set to be in the cage himself on April 19th, when he will look to become Brave Combat Federation’s first-ever Super Lightweight world champion. He takes on dangerous striker Mounir Lazzez in the co-main event of Brave 23, which takes place in Amman, Jordan.
“Khan” has been on a tear since joining Brave, coming out victorious in each of his three outings for the promotion, which included two main events: against Henrique “Rasputin” at Brave 6, and then opposing Brian Hooi at Brave 12. The Russian powerhouse only has one defeat in his pro career, to MMA superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is currently one of his training partners.
The fight against Lazzez will provide Eldarov with the opportunity of a lifetime. A win over “The Sniper” means he will become the first world Super Lightweight champion since the new weight class was only recently approved by MMA commissions around the world. Since Brave has always been at the forefront of positive changes in the sport, opening up the weight class was a no-brainer.
However, Eldarov might have to deal with a size difference for the first time in his career. Usually the biggest Lightweight, he will take on a former Welterweight fighter in Lazzez, who will look to explore the size advantage to keep Eldar’s wrestling at bay and finish his Russian counterpart on the feet.
Brave 23 marks the second time the biggest MMA promotion in the Middle East lands in Jordan. The groundbreaking event will be headlined by a Welterweight title fight, as champion Jarrah Al-Selawe locks horns with undefeated contender Abdoul Abdouraguimov. Also set for fight night is the first title defense of Lightweight champ Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady, who looks to stay perfect at Brave against Luan “Miau” Santiago.
