Elias Theodorou to USADA: Don’t penalize marijuana!

Elias Theodorou has a fight in front of him, and it’s one that he has been prepared for, for some time now. Theodorou will be in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 151, where he is set to take on Derek Brunson. However, during his workout session, he had an important message for his fans.

Apparently, he is still not allowed to use Medical Marijuana. He said that the regulators for Saturday’s UFC Ottawa event wanted him to use all other options first before they would even think of greenlighting cannabis. He said that this included ‘fibromyalgia prescription Lyrica, opioids and painkillers.’

He revealed that he regularly suffers from bilateral neuropathic pain, but the USADA forbids the use of one of his most effective treatments, cannabis. Theodorou has been pushing for upwards of 20 months to get an exception for Marijuana use, but with almost nothing to show for it, the fighter has still not given up.

“Unfortunately, it’s an outdated mindset I’m fighting. They’ve essentially agreed that I have the condition I have. But they want me to do is exhaust all other medicine.”

Theodorou might have to make do without the use of medical marijuana for the duration of this fight week, but it seems unlikely that he will stop campaigning anytime soon.
