Exclusive interview with Richard Mearns ahead of Matrix Fight Night 10

1) How did MFN approach you?

I approached them. I’m a fan of the promotion, I think they are doing the world of Indian MMA a great service. As South Asia is now my home I thought MFN to be the best platform to once again pick up my fighting career. As a result of lockdowns and coaching commitments it’s been over two years out of competition for me, but now the time is right for me to return and I am very grateful for MFN to be the platform to host my talents.

2) How does it feel to fight at MFN 10 as it will also be streamed on India biggest streaming platform i.e Disney+Hotstar

It feels very good to be fighting on MFN. I am just happy to back in the game!
So far my experience with the promotion has been very good. I feel respected as an Artist and as a Professional Athlete. I love India and have many dear friends in India. I understand that Disney+Hotstar is a very popular streaming service in India. I really want show the fans something special they most definitely will be entertained.

3)What do you know about your opponent Shyamanand?

Shyamanand is very powerful athlete and very aggressive. It’s not anything that I haven’t seen before. To be honest, I think his last two opponent’s were as helpless as that grappling dummy I see him punching up the other day. With me, he’s locked in the cage with a Ferocious Lion!

4) Where are you training for the fight? If in Nepal, are you able to get quality sparring partners?

I am preparing for this fight in my new home, Kathmandu, Nepal. It’s been a big challenge to adjust, finding sparring partners was another challenge but there are plenty of people here to help me out. I have made significant improvements training at Gymkhana Muay Thai. I want to give a huge shoutout to brother Ankit Panchal. He his a special talent at featherweight and has travelled down from Delhi to help me prepare. I’ve used all resources available to me, my preparation for this fight has been excellent. I am ready to go. I’m in Nepal and we have a saying, “Chassis Basdai!” I’ll show you what it means.
