UFC women’s flyweight contender Erin Blanchfield has added one more victory in the Octagon to her records, but she didn’t expect it would come in such manner.

At UFC 281 last Saturday night, ‘Cold Blooded’ took on former Cage Warriors Flyweight Champion Molly McCann, a fan favourite in the promotion. With three wins behind her, ‘Meatball’ was expected to come out victorious against the UFC newcomer.

However, things turned out to be very different, as Blanchfield battered McCann, before putting the Liverpudlian into a kimura choke right in the first round, forcing McCann into the tap at the 3:37 minute mark, clinching her fourth UFC victory.

Erin Blanchfield says she was “prepared to dislocate” McCann’s arm

Speaking to The MMA Hour recently, Blanchfield stated that while it was a quick tap from her opponent, it ultimately favored McCann because she walked away from the fight unscathed, while Blanchfield was ready to even dislocate her arm with the kimura.

“I remember even before the fight thinking I was probably going to have to choke her unconscious or something like that,” Blanchfield said, “I didn’t think she would tap to an armbar or kimura or something like that. In the fight, I just went there and I knew I had the position in so-tight, I was almost waiting to see if she’d let it pop.”

“I’ve popped other people’s shoulders before so I know what it felt like,” the 23-year-old BJJ black belt went on, “She let it get pretty close, and I knew if I cranked it anymore it would have dislocated. I was definitely prepared to dislocate her arm and the ref would’ve probably stopped it, in between rounds or something. She let it go, but she tapped early enough.”

With four UFC wins in the bag, the 12th ranked flyweight Blanchfield now expects to go against the top names in the division within a year.

“…In a year, I will have either have had a fight with someone in the top five or just winning a fight against someone in the top five. Something in that realm,” she added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
