Even after loss, Artem Lobov stays true to his word – vows to return 20% purse to Johnson

UFC Fight Night: Volkan vs. Smith, a.k.a UFC Fight Night 138 is finally in the books now. It will surely be a huge understatement to say that it was one of the most exciting and entertaining Fight Night events we have seen this year. In the co-main event of the fight card, popular UFC featherweight Artem “The Russian Hammer” Lobov, who also happens to be the training partner and close friend of global icon “The Notorious” Conor McGregor, welcomed former UFC lightweight Michael “The Menace” Johnson to the 145 pounds division. In the build-up to this match-up, there were some concerns whether Johnson could make weight at such a short notice or not. However, Lobov had announced that even if Johnson missed weight he would still accept the fight, and would refuse to take 20% of his purse. After the evnt, even though Lobov lost, the G.O.A.T still kept his promise and did not accept Johnson purse as a penalty for him missing weight.

Lobov not accepting Johnson’s purse was confirmed by UFC light heavyweight Corey Anderson, who was apparently present backstage at the event. He overheard a conversation between Johnson and Lobov about 20% of Johnson’s purse. Here’s what he had to say:

It looked like they was having a convo after the fight like The Menace: “yo… so we still for that 20% right?! Canada bout to tax the hell out me.” Lobov: “Yeah man… I got you I got you” lol Good fight fellas #UFCMoncton
