Even after the UFC 229 brawl, Dana White is a happy man as PPV did over 2 million buys

UFC 229 was built as the biggest fight in the history of MMA by UFC president Dana White and it looks like Dana White might actually be true. UFC 229 was headlined by Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov and Khabib (27-0) successfully defended his UFC lightweight championship against Conor McGregor (21-4) via fourth-round submission.

Dana White last week said that the pay-per-view was trending close to three million buys, and later even went on to say that the PPV is trending closer to the Mayweather vs McGregor fight which sold 4.4 million PPV buys.

However, Dana White has recently said that UFC 229 broke all the UFC records but it didn’t eclipse 3 million PPV buys.

On Thursday, he told TMZ that the buys for the event were trending between “2.6 and 3 million.”

“The pay-per-view numbers are starting to roll in, so I’m in a much better mood than I was on Saturday,” White said to TMZ Sports. “We didn’t do 3 million. But it’s so hard to crack 2 million in [combat sports]. Even [Mike] Tyson [vs Evander] Holyfield was at like 1.995 [million]. Things like that didn’t crack 2 million. We’re way over 2 million, so I’m happy.”

This is the first time in nearly two years and 14 UFC PPV card, an event has drawn over a million PPV buys, it shows us how big of a star he is and how much leverage he holds over UFC.
