Former UF heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum may be out of the Octagon till May 2020, it still hasn’t stopped him from following the current state of the heavyweight division.
This weekend at UFC 241, Cormier will put his UFC heavyweight title on the line against Stipe Miocic and if he wins the rematch many believe, it will elevate him to the GOAT status, but former champ Werdum doesn’t agree with it. According to him, the GOAT status still belongs to Fedor Emelianenko.
“In my opinion, for sure (Cormier) is a very good fighter – two belts, different divisions – but the best fighter, in my opinion, is Fedor,” Werdum said in an interview with MMAFighting. “He deserves (it). Ten years, he never lost before, and I believe Fedor continues to be the best heavyweight in the world.” (H/T – MMAJunkie.com)
He also believes that Stipe Miocic will have the upper hand against Daniel Cormier in the rematch.
“This fight is so hard for Cormier now,” Werdum said. “I don’t believe Cormier has the same focus as before. He’s like a heavyweight now, for sure, but I feel like maybe a Stipe Miocic victory on points. Miocic will beat him this time I think.”
