The UFC, despite being the top drawer in mixed martial arts, is not free from criticism and one of the main angles why the promotion has been on fire for many years is the controversy over fighters’ pay recently, fans have once again heavily blasted the UFC following the reveal of the lucrative fight purses that Professional Fighters League (PFL) fighters receive.

PFL fighters Anthony Pettis, Kayla Harrison earned $750K and $500K respectively

In the wake of the recently concluded three event run of PFL in Atlanta- which includes PFL 4, PFL 5 and PFL 6, the purses of the fighters were made public. Former UFC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, despite losing to Stevie Ray at PFL 5, clocked the highest paycheck at $750K.

Kayla Harrison, PFL Women’s Lightweight stalwart and one of the most popular women’s MMA fighters, earned the second highest purse of $500K on her first round TKO victory over Kaitlin Young in the main event of PFL 6. A total of eight PFL fighters earned six figure payouts from the Atlanta events.

Ali Abdelaziz, the CEO of Dominance MMA Management, who currently manages Kayla as well as former PFL Featherweight Champion Lance Palmer and also UFC champions such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Kamaru Usman, Henry Cejudo etc, hinted that “Doug” may be making way more than $500K.

Short term greediness is gonna be it’s downfall: Netizens slam UFC on Twitter

Soon after the PFL purses were revealed, netizens took to Twitter to slam the UFC once again. The promotion has often been criticized, by fighters and fans alike, for low and unfair wages to its athletes, and this time, fans called its business model as “dystopian” and said that the promotion’s “short term greediness is gonna be it’s downfall.”
