In a surprising turn of events, renowned Hollywood actor and martial artist Steven Seagal was recently seen taking an interest in training MMA—and his student? None other than Alex Pereira, the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight champion and former middleweight champion.
Alex Pereira- the newest pupil of the aikido veteran?
In a 40-minute long video shared on Pereira’s official YouTube channel “Alex Poatan Pereira“, the 71-year-old aikido black belt was seen teaching a number of fighting techniques to the Brazilian MMA fighter.
The clip, titled “STEVEN SEAGAL teaches ALEX PEREIRA techniques to use in MMA fights” has went viral among the mixed martial arts fandom and in four days, has garnered over 293K views and 9.6K likes. Check out the video below-
MMA fans flocked to the comment section of the clip, making several hilarious and tongue-in-cheek comments about the peculiar mentor-pupil relationship that Seagal and Pereira has shared.
One fan wrote, “Good to see POATAN is training to become an actor after he retires from MMA”
“Alex you are a good man bro. Thank you for helping this elderly man,” commented another.
“What a master, he could’ve been the first quadruple champ in the ufc, legend” said one fan about Seagal.
Another added that if Pereira uses the front kick KO that Seagal has taught him in his upcoming UFC 300 fight against Jamahal hill, he would officially earn the ‘Greatest Of All Time’ status, “If Poatan uses that kick and get’s a knockout, Segal is officially GOATED.”
“Steven is genius, his techniques are practical and highly effective. Checking leg kicks with feet parallel is very sound, kicking from that feet position also increases speed dramatically. People especially mma fans will laugh until they’re the ones feeling the force of his blows. The big guy gets it very smart. If Jon jones ever wanted to get a bit more deadlier should get a few lesson from Steven. Their styles would mesh perfectly,” another fan lauded Pereira for his humbleness towards Seagal.
One fan added, “Seagal and Pereira should’ve done a Strickland/Sneako style sparring round”
“The respect Alex shows is incredible. I am a pretty big Segal doubter, but that does not mean he has not learned a few techniques that will benefit Alex. The respect and humbleness is what makes Alex a PEOPLES champ!” another fan praised the 205-pound champion.
