Fights that should be made after UFC 217

  • Jorge Masvidal vs Michael Bisping: Masvidal and Bisping both lost their fights at UFC 217 in very unfortunate manners. Before their respective matches at MSG, both the fighters had got into verbal altercation on two different occasions during the fight week. Now that both the fighters don’t have any fight plans to stick to the duo can finally settle their issues in the Octagon for good. However there are two problems for this fight to happen; Masvidal is a welterweight and Bisping is one of the biggest middleweights, so the size different is a big problem for the fight to actually happen. The other fact is that this fight wouldn’t be a big match for Bisping who has lately been in some of the biggest fights recently. So I doubt if The Count would settle for a lesser money fight.

  • Georges St Pierre vs Anderson Silva: Fans have been dying to see the two collide in the Octagon for over a decade now. Both the champions have over ten title fight victories in their respective divisions. Both are two of the biggest superstars in the history of the sports. This would be one of the biggest money fights of all time and can be tagged as ‘MMA Fight of the Century’. Now that St Pierre has taken over the middleweight division by storm by submitting Michael Bisping at UFC 217 to win the UFC Middleweight title, it is more than possible for the UFC to make this fight happen if they could compensate Interim Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker chance at St Pierre’s gold.

  • Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Ronda Rousey: Two of the biggest stars in the women’s MMA history. Both Rousey and Jedrzejczyk have six title fight victories. Ronda Rousey has lost two title fights in a row to two of the best fighters in the women’s division, Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. Joanna on the other side has lost her title to Rose Namajunas in a devastating fashion at UFC 217. A fight between the two warriors at catch weight could be one of the biggest fights in the history of the sport. Joanna has previously expressed her desire to take on Valentina Shevchenko who is a bantamweight fighter. So with that said she would have no problem accepting a fight against the former bantamweight champion Ronda Rosuey.

  • Stephen Thompson vs Robbie Lawler: Thompson and Lawler are fans favorite fighters in their division. Thompson is known for his karate style of fighting whereas Lawler is known for his brutal fighting style which he has showcased during his wars in the past against Rory McDonalds, Johnny Hendricks and many others. Thomspon has fought Tyron Woodley twice which didn’t end in his favor. However, he bounced back from the unfortunate turn of events with a victory over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217. A fight between a karate fighter and a brawler would be something the fans would want to see. However, both have a fight scheduled. Thomspon will be taking on rising prospect Darren Till and Lawler will be taking on Rafael Dos Anjos for the number one contender spot.

  • TJ Dillashaw vs Demetrious Johnson: Yes, a Super fight! Dana White recently offered Johnson an opportunity to fight Dillashaw for his eleventh defense of the title but Johnson refused. This was before UFC 217 where Dillashaw became the UFC Bantamweight champion. Johnson however defended his title for the eleventh time against Ray Borg and successfully broke Anderson Silva’s highest consecutive title defenses. Now that both Dillashaw and Johnson are the champions a super fight between the two is inevitable as Dillawshaw wants to fight for Johnson’s title and Johnson has no more worthy opponents to beat in his divisions. The only problem for ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson is his title will be on the line and Dillashaw’s wont. But since Johnson has a record of eleven title defenses and has some star power, because of that the UFC must make the match between the two warriors at 135 pounds with Dillashaw’s bantamweight title on the line giving Johnson the opportunity to be a champion in two divisions champion simultaneously. In doing so, if Johnson wins his star power would grow beyond imagination and this would mean a lot of money for the UFC.

  • Cody Garbrandt vs Dominick Cruz: Dominick Cruz lost his title to Cody Garbrandt in a comical fashion where ‘No Love’ taunted and frustrated the ‘Dominator’ throughout the fight to win a decision victory. Since Cruz is out of action against his scheduled opponent Jimmie Rivera, a future fight between the two would be a classic rematch to watch. This however can be a fight for the shot at Dillashaw’s title.

  • Rose Namajunas vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk: Rose defeated Joanna in a brutal fashion and ended her star power and undefeated championship reign in a matter of three minutes and three seconds of the very first round at UFC 217. Rose is no longer an underdog but a new star in the division. Joe Rogan has stated in his podcast that she could be the next biggest female star. Many feel that Joanna deserves an immediate rematch as she has dominated the division for a long time.

  • Urijah Faber vs TJ Dillashaw: Urijah Faber recruited TJ Dillashaw from high school to train at his facility and mentored him throughout his career until Dillashaw switched camps and began to train with Duane Ludwig. This however angered Faber later on and also Cody Garbrandt who is Dillashaw’s former training partner. So the heat between the two still exists. Now that Dillashaw has defeated Garbrandt and is the new bantamweight champion, Faber has been asked if he would fight Dillashaw for the title weather granted an opportunity. Faber seemed to like that idea. A ‘Teacher vs Student’ would be something for the UFC to sell and this would be probably the biggest bantamweight fight in his history of the sport.

  • Robert Whittaker vs Michael Bisping: This fight was the original plan for a title unification bout between the interim champ, Whittaker and the original champ Bisping. But plans were changed when GSP decided to make his return. Now that GSP is the champion by submitting Bisping at UFC 217, he should fight Anderson Silva in what can be tagged as the ‘MMA Fight of the Century’ match. Whereas, Whittaker on the other hand, should fight his original opponent Bisping for the Interim belt. This way two big matches can take place and the winners of both the match can fight in the end.

  • Georges St Pierre vs Conor McGregor: A fight to remember for ages to come. A dream fight. A ‘Legend vs Superstar’ fight. This match would indeed be the biggest fight in the history of combat sports. Both the fighters are a two division world champion and have a nation of fans behind them. GSP was the biggest star before his short retirement from the sport and post his retirement McGregor took his place in the UFC. Now it’s time to finally see who the biggest star of all times is.
