Indian combat sports fans are possibly in for a huge treat- as the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr has expressed interest on making an exhibition match right here in the country.
Floyd Mayweather is willing to fight an Indian boxer
“Money” is currently on a global trip and his current destination is India, where he touched down on Monday on his very own private jet and went straight for the Siddhivinayak temple in Dadar, Mumbai.
And now, the former five division boxing world champion has found his next interest- in donning the gloves in the country for an exhibition match- which Mayweather himself insists might happen against a local boxer, if not someone from USA, UK or Japan.
“It’s possible. I look forward to having an exhibition over here in 2024,” said Mayweather in a recent interview with PTI. “We are looking for a solid name as a solid opponent. I’m pretty sure that I’ll find the right opponent. It’s all about taking things to the next level, with all the amazing people here anything is possible.”
“I have a team, they take their time, do their homework, and choose the best opponent. We don’t know who the opponent will be maybe he’s from India, or America, the UK or he could be from Japan. We just want to put on a show for the people,” he added. [H/T Sportstar]
Mayweather has had one of the most decorated boxing careers of all time. In 2017, he retired with an unblemished 50-0 record, having defeated UFC superstar Conor McGregor in his final professional bout. Following his retirement from professional boxing, Mayweather went into exhibition boxing where he’s currently 3-0.
