Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates’ eagerly awaited welterweight fight was the main event of tonight’s UFC Kansas City show.

At this past December’s UFC 310 event, Garry (16-1 MMA) was making his first appearance since losing to Shavkat Rakhmonov for the first time in his career. Before the defeat, “The Future” had a perfect 8-0 record inside the Octagon, including victories over Neil Magny, Geoff Neal, and Michael Page.

Carlos Prates (21-7 MMA) has won eleven straight fights going into tonight’s main event; his most recent victory was a knockout loss to Neil Magny in November of last year. “The Nightmare” had won all nine of his prior fights via knockout or TKO, four of which were under the UFC’s auspices.

Ian Machado Garry put up another outstanding performance at tonight’s UFC Kansas City main event. Carlos Prates lost much of the first four rounds against “The Future,” who was able to defeat him with remarkable agility, striking, and Fight IQ. Then “The Nightmare” finally managed to get off some nice strokes in the fifth and final frame, and it looked like he was about to score a finish. Garry managed to withstand the late assault and proceeded to win on the scorecards of all three judges.
