When he returns, former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman would like to face Sean Brady.
“The Nigerian Nightmare” hasn’t been in the cage for almost two years. The last time Kamaru Usman competed was at UFC 294 in October 2023, where he made an unexpected cameo at middleweight against Khamzat Chimaev. The wrestler challenged the unbeaten Chechen that evening, but he lost by majority decision. Usman had previously suffered back-to-back losses to Leon Edwards, and this was his third consecutive setback.
Kamaru Usman hasn’t been connected to any fights in a while, despite being active on social media and his podcast. But the 37-year-old former champion has now stated unequivocally that his favorite next opponent would be Sean Brady. The Philadelphia native, for his part, just returned to the octagon on Saturday night in the United Kingdom, where he faced Leon Edwards. In the UFC London main event, Brady gave “Rocky” a crushing defeat via submission.
Even though Sean Brady might have merited a rematch with Belal Muhammad, the bout is probably not going to materialize anytime soon. At UFC 315 this summer, “Remember The Name” will defend his welterweight title against Jack Della Maddalena. Furthermore, following his match against the Australian, Muhammad has already stated that he would prefer to defend against Shavkat Rakhmonov rather than Brady. Dana White would, of course, have the last word.
Kamaru Usman demands a bout with Sean Brady in order to make his eagerly anticipated UFC comeback
However, Kamaru Usman thinks it would be logical to fight the rising welterweight. “The Nigerian Nightmare” expressed his opinion that the fight might go like his previous encounters with Colby Covington in an interview with Henry Cejudo on a recent episode of their “Pound 4 Pound” podcast. According to Usman, he simply “banged it out” with “Chaos,” considering their history in wrestling. Brady’s grappling foundation makes it possible that it will occur again.
“When you look at styles and the way fights work, myself and Colby Covington what did everyone say? ‘Oh, they’re both wrestlers, they’re both economical fighters!’ You saw what that turned out to be.” Kamaru Usman stated on his podcast earlier this week alongside Henry Cejudo. “We ain’t even try to grapple, just banged it out. This has a potential to be one of those fights. I like Sean Brady, I like the way he approaches the game.”
He continued, “Kamaru Usman gets the job done by being Kamaru Usman. Just me being me, I’ve always said it. I’m the perfect hybrid, to where I’ll nullify any style. It doesn’t matter, I’m ambidextrous with the work. I can give him the left hand or the right hand, the left stance or the right stance.”
