In a statement, the ONE Championship acknowledged his passing.

The ONE Championship team is heartbroken over the tragic passing of Iuri Lapicus. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones at this difficult time.”

Lapicus who was a Moldovan-born middleweight  (14-2) started his career 14-0. He defeated Shannon Wiratchai in the third round to make his ONE debut in 2019. Following that, he submitted Marat Gafurov in just 67 seconds in early 2020, earning himself a title match against champion Christian Lee.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, the title match was postponed, but it eventually took place in 2020. Lapicus lost that fight for the first time in his professional career after Lee knocked him out through first-round TKO.

Six months later, Alvarez stopped Lapicus in a bout, but Alvarez was eventually stripped of his victory due to strikes to the back of the head. That DQ loss was later changed to a no contest. Lapicus lost his final battle in August of last year when Zebaztian Kadestam knocked him out.
