Irene Aldana wants to be a part of The Sphere. In the electrifying world of mixed martial arts (MMA), anticipation is building around the upcoming UFC event at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Following the resounding success of last year’s Noche UFC at the T-Mobile Arena, the promotion is gearing up for an even grander celebration during the 2024 Mexican Independence Day festivities. And one name has emerged as a strong contender to grace the Octagon within the iconic confines of The Sphere: Irene Aldana.
Dana White, the UFC president, recently announced plans to host UFC 306 at The Sphere on September 14. This state-of-the-art venue promises an unparalleled experience for fighters and fans alike. With its futuristic design and cutting-edge facilities, The Sphere is set to become a landmark in the world of combat sports. The anticipation surrounding this event is palpable, and fighters from all corners of the globe are vying for a coveted spot on the fight card.
Irene Aldana’s Journey
Irene Aldana, a tenacious women’s bantamweight contender, has her sights firmly set on The Sphere. Her journey in the UFC has been marked by determination, resilience, and a hunger for gold. Last June, she fell just short of capturing the 135-pound title when she faced the formidable Amanda Nunes. Despite the setback, Aldana remains undeterred.
In an exclusive interview with MMA Mania’s Drake Riggs, Aldana shared her aspirations for the upcoming event. “I’m still working on getting better and getting healthy and getting out of my injury 100 percent,” she revealed. “I’m almost there. Everything’s going really good. I haven’t had any news, I haven’t had any offers. Of course, this year I’m coming back, but not sure when.”
For Aldana, fighting at Noche UFC would be a dream come true. She eagerly awaits a top-five opponent—one who can propel her toward another title opportunity.
“It (Noche UFC) would be a dream come true. I’m waiting for a top five (opponent). I don’t know who, but someone that can take me to another title opportunity,” Aldana continued. “Definitely, being in The Sphere on September (14) would be amazing.”
A Thrilling 2023
While Aldana missed out on Noche UFC last year, she made a triumphant return in the second half of 2023. Her clash with Karol Rosa at UFC 296 was nothing short of epic. Ranked #4 in the division, Aldana engaged in a fierce battle that left fans on the edge of their seats. The judges awarded her the victory, and the fight was hailed as one of the best of the year. Aldana’s resilience and skill were on full display, cementing her status as a force to be reckoned with.
As the UFC gears up for its historic event at The Sphere, Irene Aldana stands ready to etch her name in the annals of MMA history. Whether she faces a familiar foe or a rising star, one thing is certain: The Sphere will witness fireworks when Aldana steps into the Octagon.
