Former UFC Fighters Fail To Shake Up ONE Championship

Since 2018, eight UFC fighters have moved to ONE Championship looking to make their mark of the global stage.

However, not all of them have been successful. In fact, 75 percent of the athletes who’ve transitioned to ONE since 2018 have lost at least once, and 63 percent have been finished by either a submission, KO, or TKO.

Guys like Daichi Abe, Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama, “Super” Sage Northcutt, Yushin “Thunder” Okami have not fared well so far.

However, two of the biggest former UFC fighters to test their mettle in ONE have been former UFC Lightweight World Champion Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez and former 12-time UFC Flyweight World Champion.

Alvarez met a roadblock in his 2019 debut, losing by first-round TKO to Timofey Nastyukhin. Then, two weeks ago at “ONE on TNT I,” he was disqualified in his fight with #2-ranked contender Iuri Lapicus for landing unintentional blows to the back of his opponent’s head.

Johnson fared a bit better, defeating three top contenders to win the ONE Championship Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship and earning a shot at longtime ONE Championship Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes.

However, on the same night Alvarez was DQ’d, Johnson suffered the first KO loss of his career when Moraes dropped the American with a knee before unleashing finishing ground and pound.

With all that said, two former UFC stars have done well in ONE. Top heavyweight contender Arjan “Singh” Bhullar and #1-ranked bantamweight John “Hands Of Stone” Lineker have both made names for themselves in the organization.

Bhullar defeated Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli in his debut, and Lineker recently stopped former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon.

Because of the success they’ve had so far, they could very well become the next UFC fighters (along with ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera) to win a ONE World Title and turn the group’s luck around.
