Frankie Edgar made another failed bid to capture the lightweight crown this past Saturday against Max Holloway. However, despite coming up short, Edgar still takes pride in losing to a champion like Max.

Edgar has currently taken the time off to travel and introspect his defeat. He posted an emotional message on Instagram addressing his team, fans and his family.

“I took a day to travel home and sulk in my sorrows and while my heart is still broken I’m still proud of my performance,” wrote Edgar on Instagram.

“I will never be ok with losing but I take solace into losing to a man like Max, a true champion that represents himself, his family, and our sport like no other. I can take this loss like a man and show my children that failing and getting knocked down is ok just as long as we get back to our feet to fight again.”

With the win, Holloway has continued his impeccable run at 145 pounds. He is now riding a 14 fight winning streak in the division. He has already defeated Jose Aldo twice and made easy work of upcomer Brian Ortega.

Preparing for such an opponent is always a team job. “The answer”, hence, acknowledged the support of his team in making him mentally and physically ready for the fight.

“Thanks to my team for always having me prepared to the fullest, getting ready for Max was a daunting task but yet they had me ready. ”

He also payed his respects to the fans for their constant support and to his wife for being his backbone and letting him know what is truly important in life.

Edgar has chided away from making any concrete statements about his future. He has assured that he will return, but hasn’t given definite information on probable weight class and the next opponent. Given the visible size disadvantage that Frankie had over Holloway, a move towards bantamweight may be possible.

Another factor that may propel him towards 135 pounds are his repeated failures at the title shot at 145 pounds. He is now 0-3 in title fights at 145 pounds. The way the division is shaping up, it will be really difficult for Edgar to make another bid at the lightweight throne.
