Former featherweight title challenger Brian Ortega pulled out of UFC Fight Night 165 fight against Chan Sung Jung which was scheduled to take place at the Sajik Arena in Busan, South Korea on December 21 after tearing his ACL during training camp. However, fans don’t need to feel disheartened as Former UFC lightweight champion has stepped up in short notice to fight the Korean Zombie. Frankie Edgar was booked to fight Cory Sandhagen in the co-main event of UFC Raleigh on January 25, 2020.

Frankie Edgar replaces Brian Ortega

According to a report from MMAFighting, UFC officials released a statement confirming the news.

Edgar is currently preparing for his bantamweight debut against Cory Sandhagen at UFC Raleigh on January, but wanted the opportunity to face Jung first.”

Frankie Edgar fought UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 240 in July earlier this year. He lost the fight unanimous decision.

Edgar’s original opponent Cory Sandhagen wasn’t too thrilled by Frankie Edgar pulling out of the fight.

It’s not cool of Frankie to do something like that,” Sandhagen told Ariel Helwani. “I don’t know if money got involved or what, but I thought this guy wanted to have another run at a belt and to call himself the best in the world. I thought that’s the kind of fighter Frankie was. It’s what he said he wanted.”
