The UFC is finalizing an exciting bantamweight fight for early 2021, as Cory Sandhagen and Frankie Edgar have verbally agreed to meet on Feb. 6

UFC news: Frankie Edgar vs. Cory Sandhagen targeted for Feb. 6

The former UFC lightweight champion is being targeted to fight top contender Cory Sandhagen at UFC Fight Night 187 on Feb. 6. The location for the event has yet to be announced. First reported by ESPN.

Frankie Edgar

Edgar, 39, is a former UFC lightweight champion and has twice competed for the UFC featherweight title. Edgar (24-8-1 MMA, 18-8-1 UFC) made his 135-pound debut in August, defeating Pedro Munhoz via split-decision in the main event of UFC on ESPN 15. The victory snapped a two-fight skid that marked the end of his run at 145 pounds. The 39-year-old last held UFC gold in 2012. He’s remained a contender since, but he’s come up short in four title shots over two weight classes.

Sandhagen vs. Edgar was previously scheduled for a Fight Night event in Raleigh, N.C., this past January. However, Edgar was moved from that matchup to a headlining bout against “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung in Busan, South Korea, in December after Jung’s original opponent Brian Ortega withdrew due to injury. Edgar went on to lose by the first-round TKO to Jung.

UFC: Cory Sandhagen gets spinning wheel kick TKO vs Marlon Moraes

Sandhagen (13-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC), is coming off a TKO win over Marlon Moraes in October at UFC Fight Night 179. With the win over the Brazilian, he successfully bounced back from a submission loss to Aljamain Sterling. Sandhagen is 8-1 in his past nine fights. At UFC 250 in June, Sandhagen saw a seven-fight win streak snapped when he was submitted by Aljamain Sterling inside of a round.
