Our Friday Fighter this week is Vaibhav Shetty who has competing in Indian MMA for a long time. He is currently ranked 39th in active Asia southeast middleweight rankings. Training in KOI Combat Academy, Vaibhav Shetty has become known for his ability to fight under any circumstance.

He also trains at Rama Reddy Martial Arts for their Jiu-Jitsu facility. He is an International Middle Weight amateur MMA fighter and Medium Heavy Jiu-Jitsu athlete, a management professional and last but not the least, a father from Bangalore.

His day job is as a Senior Strategy professional at a software company called Eka Software services. Vaibhav was always a sports person growing up being active in Karate, Discus throw, and NCC. However, education and career took priority over sports and he ended up completing his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry followed by an MBA from Symbiosis and fruitful 10 years career in management. Vaibhav has represented India at the Asian Open MMA 2019 and have won 3 silvers and 1 gold in the recently concluded Jiu-Jitsu (SJJIF) Gi and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Asian Open 2019. Currently ranked #2 (Pound for Pound rankings) Among Master 1 White No-Gi category in Asia in Jiu-Jitsu and #185 (pound for pound rankings) in the world in Amateur MMA.

In one of his interviews with MMAIndia.com, he had discussed about future plans. “I would like to prepare for the world championships again. However, I’m also part of the Federation in Karnataka and would be working towards the development of the game for the athletes. There are also some plans with the World Boxing Foundation that I will reveal in a bit and also expressed his desire to turn pro in Boxing or BJJ.”

Vaibhav Shetty has also been recently appointed as the official WBC MuayThai representative in India. He and his team will begin their work to enhance the growing popularity of the sport of MuayThai in India with the implementation of the WBC MuayThai youth program and WBC MuayThai professional championships.
