AIMMAF held its latest nationals at the IHFF Sheru Classic event that took place in New Delhi from June 17 to June 19 at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The nationals were for the selection trials for the GAMMA Asian Championship.
About 168 fighters took part in the IHFF Open MMA Championship and the winners will get a chance to represent India at the GAMMA Asian Championship.
“It was a big success and we have seen the level of Indian fighters improving this time specifically from the North-Eastern part of the country. They came and performed very well in this competition. I think this was a ripple effect because of Surbala Devi, who won the Gold medal at the world championship in Amsterdam. Because of her, a ripple effect got created and a lot of athletes from Manipur were present there and made their state very proud. This was a testament to all of the fighters and all the hard work that they had done.
“Everybody who participated in this event did an incredible job i.e the fighters, the officials, the referees. We had a 100% safety track record; no complaints whatsoever and everybody was happy on top of that the best part of the entire competition was that we secured around 8 sponsorship for both amateur and professional fighters. The diet and supplement needs of the fighters will be taken care of by the company. So, overall it was an absolutely great event and we really enjoyed it. We also hosted many of the celebrities including Grandmaster Shifu Ji and also a few politicians to everybody who was present over there, so it was really a very good event.” Aditya PS, President of AIMMAF said in an interview.
