The former Bellator MMA middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi recently lost the title in his last fight at Bellator 223 against Rafael Lovato Jr due to a majority decision. Mousasi is now set to make his return to fighting in a rematch against the former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. In a recent interview, Mousasi gave his thoughts on the potential rematch with Machida.
Mousasi and Machida first fought each other in early 2014 in the main event of a UFC Fight Night. Machida came out victorious in that fight due to a unanimous decision.
Mousasi will now be rematching Machida at Bellator 228.
Mousasi recently told DAZN in an exclusive interview about why he accepted the rematch against the Brazilian legend. Here’s what he had to say:
They gave me money, they said come fight, I want to fight. It’s not rocket science you know. I’m a fighter. They pay me, I fight. And uh, Machida’s a big name anyway. I’m going to face him now or later. Lovato is injured, that’s what I heard, so we’re gonna move on.
