Gegard Mousasi pulls out of Bellator 214 title defense against Rafael Lovato Jr.

Gegard Mousasi is widely considered to be one of the two best middleweights on the planet, with the other being the UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker. Some fans and pundits alike, believe that he is even better than his UFC counterpart Whittaker. The current undisputed king of Bellator’s middleweights was set to defend his throne at the top of the 185 pounds mountain at Bellator 214 against Rafael Lovato Jr. The fans were extremely excited for this match-up and to see two of the best Bellator fighters, in their prime, going at it. However, all the joy and excitement has been abruptly cut short, as the champion, Mousasi has now pulled out of the fight citing a back injury.

Mousasi was previously fighting in the UFC. Many believed that he was championship material and should challenge for the strap. However, a lack of title shot in the UFC and Bellator offering him a much better financial deal, made him jump ships to the UFC’s current biggest rival promotion.

Mousasi has been on an absolute tear since joining the Scott Coker led company. He was expected to face BJJ wizard Lovato Jr. but their fight will now probably be rescheduled. The Bellator 214 card is still highly stacked and even features a heavyweight title fight between the legendary veteran Fedor Emelianenk and the Bellator light heavyweight champion, Ryan Bader.
