Former double champ Georges St-Pierre says the chances of a super fight against the lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov are “incredibly low”.

Nurmagomedov will defend his title against interim champ Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 on October 26. If he prevails, that would make it 29-0 for the champ. He always wanted his potential thirtieth win, also the last fight of his career against St-Pierre.

St-Pierre, on the other hand, has also expressed interest in fighting Nurmagomedov. However, keeping in mind the timeline of both the fighters, St-Pierre believes the chances of the fight happening are extremely bleak.

Speaking in an interview with CBS Sports, St-Pierre addressed the issue.

St-Pierre lays out the hindrances!

‘Rush’ first addresses the problem which has led the entire world to a stand still, the COVID-19 pandemic. He agrees that training has been highly compromised. (via BJPENN.com):

“It’s tempting and I still train hard,” he said. “Now it’s COVID, so of course it’s different. It’s illegal to train combat sports here but I always train hard and I still get it.”

St-Pierre then addressed another issue which can put the organization in a difficult spot if the fight happens and he wins and retires. He says it will be difficult for him to stay on the sidelines if he becomes the lightweight champ and will look bad upon the organization if he retires being the champ like he did at welterweight and middleweight.

“I don’t know if the organization would want that. I run away with the welterweight, I run away with the middleweight and they assuredly don’t want me to run with the lightweight.”

Lastly and probably most importantly, the former double champ believes at the age of 39, it would be a task for him to go down to 155 pounds.

“I’m 39 years old and I don’t think I can go 155 without my performance being compromised,” St-Pierre said.

“I believe he is the best fighter right now on the face of the planet,” St-Pierre added. “Khabib is fighting at 155 but I believe he is heavier than me and walks around at a heavier weight. He is younger than me and can fluctuate whenever. I was never a big fan of weight cutting because I always thought of long-term consequences.
