MMA legend and former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre believes Alexander Volkanovski, the reigning UFC featherweight champ, is the best active pound for pound fighter in the world at the moment.

He’s one of my favorite fighters to watch: Georges St-Pierre

“The Great” is fresh off a third round TKO victory over Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290 this past weekend, which not only marked a winning comeback from the Islam Makhachev loss at UFC 284 in February but also marked his fifth 145-pound title defense.

Rodriguez entered the fight as the interim champ, having defeated Josh Emmett at the same UFC 284 card in February to have won the belt. However, “El Pantera” was heavily dominated in the Octagon against Volkanovski and was stopped in round three, all which happened in the presence of GSP who was cage-side at the T-Mobile Arena at UFC 290 to promote his upcoming grappling event in December.

Speaking in a recent edition of The MMA Hour, “Rush” stated that he was highly impressed by Volkanovski, and the former two division champ even named him the best active pound for pound in the world.

“The way I see Alexander Volkanovski, he’s not a specialist,” said St-Pierre. “He’s very good everywhere. For me when I was fighting, that was my strength. I was not the best at something but I was good everywhere so I was able to become the perfectionist to my opponent. I think he is using a similar strategy.”

“When he’s fighting someone, he takes his opponent out of his comfort zone. Oh yeah [I like watching him], he’s one of my favorite fighters to watch. I love watching him, I think he’s the best right now. Probably the best active fighter, the best pound-for-pound right now,” he added. [H/T]
