UFC featherweight prospect Giga Chikadze after his recent win over Edson Barboza at UFC on ESPN 30 has called out the former featherweight champion Max Holloway.
UFC’s rising featherweight contender Giga Chikadze added another win to his UFC career as he earned a well-fought win over one of the best strikers in the UFC, Edson Barboza. The duo faced off against each other at UFC on ESPN 30. The fight was a matchup made in heaven as it was evenly matched considering the skillset of both the fighters. Both of them are known for their kicks and that’s what they showcased in their matchup.
The fight started off with both the fighters stalking each other and trading leg kicks. The first round of the fight was pretty competitive. The second round of the fight was Barboza’s best round as he landed some good body kicks.
At the start of the third round Giga came out with a point to prove he landed some really good shots on the face before cracking up Barboza with a hard punch. While on the retreat, Barboza absorbed strikes to the body and head. Barboza ate another right hand and stumbled backwards. He fell on the mat and tried to get some submission locked in but wasn’t successful in either of them. After standing up for a small moment, Barboza again fell back on the mat after eating another punch which was enough for the referee to jump and stop the fight.
Giga Chikadze calls out Max Holloway
After his dominant win over Edson Barboza, Giag didn’t shy away from calling arguably the best featherweight in the division, Max Holloway.
“I’m here to fight the best fights and the biggest names,” Chikadze said in his post-fight interview. “I would love to cover the title shot and be a replacement fighter. If not, somebody Hawaiian who’s in the division. He knows my name. I saw him doing interviews, and he said something like this, ‘Oh, yeah, I heard this Giga guy who kicks.’ I’m not just a Giga guy; I’m a guy who kicks the sh*t out of people.”
“I’m not interested in anything else,” Chikadze said at the post-fight press conference. “Like why? Everybody before this said no to me. I’ve been told that I’m going to fight a top-five guy and then the title. The top-five guy didn’t agree. Nobody agreed, and that’s why I fought Edson, who is a bigger name than top five. So I want to see myself on a top-five next week ranking, top-three actually.”
Max Holloway is at the moment scheduled to fight Yair Rodriguez at the UFC fight night event in November.
