UFC featherweight prospect Giga Chikadze hopes to get a quick turnaround fight against UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens on either May 8 or May 15.
Chikadze is one of the hottest featherweight prospects in the UFC at this moment. His fighting style and confidence in his striking are what separates him from others and make him stand out in the division. Till now his UFC career is unscratched and has gone 6-0 for the promotion and is 13-2 overall.
His latest win is over a top featherweight fighter in Cub Swanson. He hit Swanson with a beautiful body kick that sent him on the ground and he finished Cub with strikes in just two minutes of their fight at UFC on ESPN 23 event in Las Vegas. Chikadze is now on an eight-fight winning streak with six of those victories being under the UFC lights. He’s currently ranked in the top 15 of the UFC’s 145-pound division.
After the fight, he called out several fighters that he would like to face in the UFC.
“I was in Georgia when Max fought Calvin. I was doing commentary for the fight, and I enjoyed this fight, and every time he was doing something nice I was like, ‘I want to fight him. I want to fight him,’” Chikadze told MMA Junkie at the UFC on ESPN 23 post-fight news conference. “I feel like after this type of performance, I might get it – if not, then I might get (Kattar).”
He also talked about his highlight finish and specifically about his ‘Giga Kick’
“I’ve been in this moment many times with my kick,” Chikadze said. “My liver kick – my ‘Giga kick’ – this type of kick that you hurt somebody but they’re still not unconscious, they still feel everything and they can see it. It kind of blocks your body to do everything. I’ve been doing this in karate and kickboxing and I’ve had this type of experience every time. When I felt that, I realized I had already won the fight. I saw what the referee was doing and because he did’t stop me I continued just to make him think that it’s over.”
Giga Chikadze now wants to fight Jeremy Stephens in May
According to the latest news surfing around, Chikadze has expressed interest to fight Jeremy Stephens. This fight might actually take place as Stephens’s last fight with Drakkar Klose was scrapped out due to the injury Drakker suffered during the face-off with Jeremy in which he was pushed hard causing the damage to him. MMAjunkie.com’s John Morgan reported that Team Chikadze was trying to get a fight against Jeremy.

UFC might not consider this match-up as both the fighters had recently gone through their weight cut process and to make them do that for the second time in nearly one month might be a problem. But after a proper break, this fight could be one to make as this will be great for Giga to beat a veteran and at the same time for Jeremy to get a win over a rising prospect.
