The recent merging of UFC and WWE is expected to serve Gilbert Burns well- as he plans to take revenge on Brock Lesnar for pushing Daniel Cormier back in 2018.
“Durinho” is fresh off a 1st round submission victory over Neil Magny at UFC 283 back in January, marking his comeback from the loss against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273 last year.
The Brazilian is now slated to take on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287 this Saturday night in Miami. However, Burns is targeting another fight in the meantime, and that is against Brock Lesnar.
In the wake of the UFC-WWE merger, Burns wants to let out the grudge he holds for the former UFC heavyweight champion and WWE superstar, for one gesture he did against Daniel Cormier back in 2018.
He cannot push DC like that: Gilbert Burns on Lesnar shoving Cormier at UFC 226
After UFC 226, when Cormier defeated Stipe Miocic to clinch the UFC Heavyweight gold, Lesnar entered the Octagon, bashing both fighters before he pushed off Cormier. A fight between Lesnar and Cormier was hyped up, but never took place, with Cormier never getting the chance to answer to Lesnar’s push.
However, courtesy of the merger between the two companies, Burns wants to take revenge for DC. Speaking to the reports at the UFC 287 media day, Burns said that he wants to slap Lesnar.
“That would be nice, I think both are huge companies. They can help each other build a better market for each one. I think we can learn a lot from the WWE and vice versa. There’s also a good opportunity to slap Brock Lesnar in the face right? It’s a good opportunity. [laughs],” said Burns.
“No, I’ve never met him, he’s lucky I’ve never met him,” he went on about Lesnar. “But, I want to slap him. He cannot push DC like that when he came all the way here in the octagon. I want to slap him in the face.” [H/T BJPenn.com]
