Gilbert Burns doesn’t think Colby Covington switching to orthodox will change his power. This all started when Colby’s coach had the following to say –

‘Chaos‘ Covington’s new coach Cesar Carneiro said, He’s not a southpaw, and we found that out. He is right-handed, and in wrestling, he puts his right leg in front to knock it down.

The news comes as a shocker to MMA fans, who labeled the #2 ranked welterweight as a southpaw. Despite fighting left-handed, Covington achieved relative success and beat the who’s who of the division. However, he never claimed KO wins, which may change in his upcoming fights.

Carneiro said, In training, we saw that he never felt comfortable making the right, so he didn’t knock anyone out. But now it has changed and everyone will see it.

In a recent interview, Burns had the following to say:

He’s not a southpaw and we found that out,” MMA Masters striking coach Cesar Carneiro said to AgFight. “He is right-handed, and in wrestling he puts his right leg in front to knock it down. In training we saw that he never felt comfortable making the right, so he didn’t knock anyone out. But now it has changed and everyone will see it. Before, he took the right and dropped his hand, so he took another one.

Burns took a jab at Colby Covington after hearing this.

Holy shit Colby is Orthodox. Nothing changes! Still a pillow hands,” Burns tweeted.

Burns vs Covington: Future potential fight?

The change could be decisive against Tyron Woodley, who has proven KO power and has knocked out the likes of Robbie Lawler. He will no doubt attempt to do the same against his bitter enemy, Colby Covington.

However, ‘Chaos’ has a strong wrestling background and an insanely well-honed cardio game to throw any fighter off. Now, he too can end the fight with one-punch if he sees the opportunity to do so. This is because his coach feels he will be comfortable in making a right hand.

The upcoming fight against Tyron Woodley will be Covington’s first since leaving ATT. Colby is not a well-liked personality in the MMA fraternity which will make finding a new gym very difficult.

Finding new sparring partners of quality in this pandemic induced world will also be a headache to navigate. If he does find the needed sparring partners, he will still have to find himself some cornerman.

His is a style that is seen as the kryptonite to Tyron Woodley’s one-punch knockout preference. Kamaru Usman broke the secret and Gilbert Burns ran Tyron to the ground with that same game plan.
