Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira sees his apprentice Alex Pereira as the next in line to clinch the 205-pound throne.

Following the rematch with Israel Adesanya where he lost and Adesanya reclaimed the middleweight belt, Pereira announced that he will be moving up to Light Heavyweight and his 205-pound debut is scheduled against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291 on 29th July.
A win over Blachowicz, who is a former champion himself, is expected to hearn “Poatan” a shot at the 205-pound title, which is currently around the waist of Jamahal Hill. if and when Hill vs. Pereira eventually takes place, Teixeira believes it will be his compatriot who will be successful.
“For sure, the style with Jamahal Hill and Alex, it’s perfect for Alex,” Teixeira said after defeating Anthony Smith at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4. “Listen, Jamahal Hill is a great fighter, and Jan is a great fighter. We’re not looking past Jan over here like that. Styles make fights. My style was more grappling, and Jan is a tremendous striker. He beat Israel Adesanya and he was doing really good in the standup before he started going [for takedowns]. Jan is dangerous, he hits hard.”

While Teixeira acknowledges that Blachowicz will be a tough challenge for Pereira, he would want him to win the fight and go after Hill- whom Teixeira himself had fought earlier this year and lost and would see Pereira fighting him to avenge the loss.
“But if everything goes to plan and Alex can get past Jan, for sure I think Jamahal Hill will be an amazing fight for Alex, and it would be nice to see revenge — nothing against Jamahal Hill, he’s a great guy as well, but yeah,” he added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
After Jiri Prochazka went into rehab due to his shoulder injury and vacated the belt, Hill and Teixeira contested for the title back in January this year at UFC 283. The fight saw Hill winning via unanimous decision.
