UFC light-heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira tells about the challenges he had to face in the latter part of his career to earn the title shot again.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz will defend his throne for the second time against the division’s veteran Glover Teixeira in September. The fight will take place on a UFC 266 event on Sept. 4. UFC has not announced an official venue for the event.

Glover Teixeira has proved his status as the no.1 contender at the light-heavyweight division by putting out some of the best the division has to offer. At the age of 41, where most of the fighters are already enjoying their retirement life, Glover was fighting his way back to the top of the weight class. He got his first title shot against Jon Jones but could not get through Jones who was at his very best.

But now Glover Teixeira has finally reached his full potential and looks solid as the next challenge for the champion Jan Blachowicz. Blachowicz is coming off the biggest win of his career, after defeating the undefeated middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 259. Jan won the belt by knocking out Dominick Reyes as the former champ Jon Jones had vacated the belt and moved up to the heavyweight division.

Glover Teixeira talks about his obstacles

While talking to AG Fight, Glover explained the things he had to go through before reaching the top for the second time in his career. When he lost to Jon Jones in 2014 many people considered his career done and thought there’s no way he was going to get back after facing losses in his fighting path.

Since that loss in 2014, he faced some losses but recently he has had five consecutive wins and four finishes. He is coming off a TKO finish of former title challenger Thiago Santos. Now he is confident in his skill set and vows to get the job done against Jan.

“I always believed that I was going to get that belt, that I was going to get there. I lost to the guys who fought for the belt afterward like Anthony Johnson, (Alexander) Gustafsson. I hit the post several times and this fight with ‘Marreta’ was to remove that. He said to me, ‘This time, go.’ I managed to achieve this victory and always believing,” Teixeira said.

“The road was long, more than seven years, but I was there and saw the chance. I won’t say it was easy. Now we are here again. I sought this dream with joy. We are getting experience with life. We do so much wrong that one time we get it right. I am in a peaceful moment. I just want things to flow to do what I love.”
