‘The best fisherman in MMA’ who happens to be the #11 ranked lightweight contender, Gregor ‘The Gift’ Gillespie has finally laid his bait.

Gillespie, known for never calling out anybody, finally decided to break his rule. That might as well be for his own good, as Gillespie has targeted the division’s former champion Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis.

Gillespie issued his callout on Instagram while munching on Wheaties breakfast cereal which was once represented by Pettis. (via Instagram):

“So for the last six fights everyone has been pressuring and annoying me to call someone out. I never wanted to, but I think it’s time to play the game. I want my first call out to count, so ‘Showtime’ Pettis, although I think you’re a great fighter, I think it’s time to go back to 155 and meet me at MSG (on) Nov. 2. What do you say?”

Pettis, who still finds himself in the lightweight rankings at #9, has always kept a move back to lightweight open. However November might be slightly tailored for him as he is fresh of a three round war against Nate Diaz wherein he suffered a foot injury.

Gillespie on the other hand has been on a tear. The undefeated lightweight is 6-0 under the UFC banner with last five of his victories being finishes. The last time Gillespie fought was in January as he rag dolled Yancy Medeiros for a TKO victory. Gillespie would like to back inside the octagon as soon as possible.
