With Khabib Nuramgomedov announcing his retirement after another flawless victory, Georges St-Pierre, Conor McGregor, and Daniel Cormier were among those who shared their thoughts on Khabib’s storied career and his legacy in MMA.

Georges St-Pierre is often considered the greatest MMA fighter for many reasons. He has beaten everyone who beat him and retired as the champion. Khabib Nurmagomedov has done the same, but without losing even a single MMA fight. This has re-opened the debate for GOAT, and GSP has aired his thoughts.

He said,There is many guys that has been the greatest fighter of all time. It is an impossible thing to be the greatest fighter of all time. We all have moments where we shine and share the greatest of all time. Khabib with his performance tonight was the greatest of all time.

Khabib

Anderson Silva, he knocked out Vitor Belfort. One of the greatest of all time. Jon Jones when he knocked out Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson was greatest of all time. Adesanya when he beat Paulo Costa the last time was the greatest of all time. B. J. Penn had this moment when he beat Matt Hughes…

The question of who the ‘GOAT’ is will always differ. Many disqualify iconic champions like Jon Jones and Anderson Silva for their PED tests. People disregard Demetrious Johnson for a lack of competition. But not many can discredit either Nurmagomedov  or GSP.

Georges St-Pierre vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov ?

Georges St-Pierre said he would have liked to face Khabib Nurmagomedov “as a competitor” but is very happy for the freshly retired fighter after his “masterful” performance at UFC 254.

Khabib

Both Nurmagomedov and St-Pierre had for month expressed interest in a future “super fight”, but the Dagestan native’s retirement announcement amid difficult family circumstances has put that on hold.

I was surprised [Khabib retired]. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was surprised by his performance too. I know he’s incredibly good, I just didn’t know how good he was. Now you put him into a different gear. I was surprised he retired because I thought he wanted to do [the fight] and the media said he wanted to [get to] 30-0,” St Pierre said.

Maybe normally I would [call him out] but because of the circumstances I would never dare to do that … He needs time to mourn his father. I respect Khabib a lot, but this goes beyond sport, into the human side.
