George St. Pierre(GSP) announced his retirement from the sport of MMA in February last year, after an incredible career in the Welterweight and Middleweight division of the UFC. The Canadian superstar is the personification of what it means to be a true mixed martial artist. He never believed in talking about greatness. He believed in showing it to the world with his performances, and he did.

The future Hall of Famer is potentially the best middleweight mixed martial artist to have ever walked the face of the earth. Being a 39-year-old retiree, the former champion is still in great shape and form, and he never fails to motivate his fans through his workout videos on Instagram.

In a conversation with Nathan Evans of MMA Trufan, GSP revealed his interest in fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov, and his admiration for the Lightweight champion. He called Khabib the ‘perfect fighter’ and said he wanted to be the first guy to have ever defeated him.

Khabib was very exciting for me because, for a fighter, a fighter doesn’t think like a normal person.”, said GSP. “A fighter always wants to fight a guy who seems invincible, a guy who seems like the perfect fighter, who is unbeatable. He has an aura of invincibility. So, that means if I do it I’ll be the first to have ever done it. It’s not a question of money. Yeah, the money is there but it’s not a question of money first. It’s a question of glory, of self-accomplishment, of making it in a way that you’ll be in history forever, for myself.

However, this is not a one-sided show of interest, as Khabib has also shown interest in fighting GSP previously. While talking to MMA fighting, his manager Ali Abdelaziz said “We believe the fight to make is the Georges St-Pierre fight at 155 pounds. Khabib wants to fight for legacy and not for a soap opera drama show, and we think Conor doesn’t deserve this opportunity.

GSP vs Khabib: A dream matchup

We wonder what’s stopping this fight from happening, given that both fighters and the fans want to see the fight. There’s no question about how much money the fight will make because it is most likely to break all records. The fighters don’t even have to create fake beef to sell the fight. Besides the money, the fight will be a great display for the sport of Mixed martial arts when two of the greatest fighters go against each other in the octagon. It will be interesting to see if Khabib remains undefeated, or does GSP manage to get another feather on the cap with a victory against The Eagle.
