Joe Rogan recently shared his admiration for Alex Pereira’s coach, Glover Teixeira, during the #160th MMA Show of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. The veteran sportscaster revealed that Teixeira, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, had his prime years outside the big leagues.
“Glover [Teixeira] was a guy that was locked out of America for six years. He couldn’t come to America for six years because he had visa issues. He was like the boogeyman. We would all hear about him in Brazil. Glover was like one of those guys… I think he wasted his prime unfortunately in Brazil… I think his prime years were outside of the United States” Rogan stated.
Teixeira’s reputation preceded him during his time in Brazilian MMA circuits. Locked out of America for six years due to visa issues, he became a feared figure—a boogeyman, as Rogan put it. Brazilian fans and fighters alike knew of his prowess, but his prime years unfolded away from the United States.

Despite setbacks, Teixeira surprised everyone by capturing the UFC light heavyweight title. From 2019 to 2021, he went on a remarkable six-fight win streak, culminating in a title victory against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267—achieving this feat at the age of 42. His coaching role has been equally impactful, helping Pereira achieve two-division champion status in the UFC.
