Henry Cejudo, the former UFC Flyweight and Bantamweight Champion has his mind sent on making history- a third division title and wants a shot at the reigning Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and has appealed to the promotion’s president Dana White.

Cejudo bid adieu to MMA after making his maiden Bantamweight title defense against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 in May 2020 but soon after his retirement, the former double champ hinted at a comeback to the cage and back in April this year, confirmed his return “within six months”. Having entered the USADA testing pool after UFC 273, “Triple C” will be eligible to fight in October.

I truly believe I could beat him: Henry Cejudo on facing Volkanovski

Speaking to ESPN, Cejudo said that he hopes the comeback will lead to a contest against “The Great” for his Featherweight title, which will make him the first UFC fighter to win titles in three weight classes. While the promotion is trying to make his return fight at Bantamweight, Cejudo said he will only go down if that eventually leads to a Volkanovski fight.

“That’s the only reason why I’m even going down to 135 pounds,” said Cejudo on facing Volkanovski next, “These dudes are not on my level — none of those dudes are at my level. And they all know it. So if I have to go down to 135 pounds [and win back] my belt to challenge Alexander Volkanovski, that’s what I have to do.”

“I truly believe I could beat him. I would never take a fight that I don’t think I could win… [Dana], I know I talked a lot of stuff, calling you Dana Bald, Dana Aldo. But, boss, I respect you. I understand what you’ve done for the UFC and the sport of mixed martial arts. I’ve only wanted attention for situations like this — to fight and make history. You’ve always said it, Dana, that ‘I will never stop anybody from making history.’ Well, here he is right here, man,” he added.
