Former two-division champion Henry Cejudo has called out former featherweight champion Max Holloway for a matchup in the featherweight category. According to Henry Cejudo, he wants to fight Max as his dream of becoming a three-weight champion is not turning into reality as he is not getting a chance to fight the current featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski. Henry Cejudo last fought at UFC 249 against Dominick Cruz. He won the fight via TKO in the second round. Immediately after the fight on May 9, 2020, at UFC 249, Cejudo announced his retirement from professional fighting. Now since the past few months, Henry Cejuo has been hinting towards his comeback to the UFC and has asked for a title fight against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

In one of his recent interviews, Henry Cejudo revealed that he has plans to fight top-ranked featherweight contender Max Holloway.

“One of the fights that come to mind if I come back is Max Holloway. If you won’t give me Alexander the average, give me Holloway. Okay, if they want me to fight somebody to get into that title fight, give me Holloway. I know I can beat him, and then I’ll get Alexander the average. I’m curious to see what Holloway would say about the fight, I respect him, but I also know he’s really beatable. But, I know he’s really dangerous too, that’s why I like him.”

Cejudo continued, “I do believe Max Holloway would take me seriously, and he’d be more willing to fight me than Alexander Volkanovski would. That’s the route I would wanna go… Give me a Holloway, or a Volkanovski.”

Max Holloway faced Yair Rodríguez on November 13, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 197. He won the fight via unanimous decision. He is the no.1 ranked featherweight cotneder and was scheduled to fight Alexander Volknovski at UFC 272 but the fight got cancelled.

Last month UFC analyst Chael Sonnen said that he asked Henry Cejudo about his fighting plans and got a positive reply from Henry.

“I asked him point blank, ‘Henry for sure, are you coming back?’” Sonnen said on YouTube. “He said ‘Chael, I’m in the USADA pool, I’m training twice a day, I’m ready to go. I want Volkanovski.’ I said ‘I know you want Volkanovski but Volkanovski’s already got an opponent and it’s not you, so are you willing to get in there?’ And that’s where it was hard to get an answer. He for sure was willing to tell me that after he beats Volkanovski, he’s going to stick around and defend the belt for a few years. He was also very confident to tell me if he lost to Volkanovski, he’s going to stick around and take on the contenders then.”
