Former UFC double champ Henry Cejudo believes when Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev lock horns in the Octagon, its the former who will have the advantage for having more experience.
What makes Colby good is the fact that he has a gas tank: Henry Cejudo
Covington (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) and Chimaev (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) are two of the best 170-pounders on the planet and a fight between them have been on the wishlist of fight fans for quite some time.
Recently, UFC prez Dana White also kindled the thought of putting the two welterweights against one another, even suggesting that the fight could serve as a co-main event for the Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman trilogy. On the other hand, there are even speculations that the bout might actually be the headliner for UFC 285 in March next year.
Even though there are rumors that “Borz” may not stay at 170, especially since missing weight before UFC 279, if he does stay at the division, Cejudo still feels it would be difficult for Chimaev to make weight without any impact on his performance. And with Covington’s experience and more wrestling background, he believes the American fighter will have the edge.
“I think he’s (Covington) the more experienced fighter. He’s wrestled a lot longer than Khamzat Chimaev,” said Cejudo in a recent video on his YouTube channel, “I think this is gonna be a good fight. I think it’s gonna come down to who’s recovered faster and quicker. And if this is a five-round fight, I almost want to lean towards Colby Covington because, as we saw in that Gilbert Burns fight with Khamzat Chimaev, I’m not sure if Chimaev could ever make 170 pounds.”
“If he could make the weight, my question is will Khamzat actually recover with the gas tank of this guy (Covington) who’s accustomed to making 170 pounds periodically,” ‘Triple C’ went on, “What makes Colby Covington good is the fact that he has a gas tank,” Cejudo said. “That’s what that is, his spirit of American-style wrestling with the gas tank that he has, and I think that’s what really makes Colby Covington dangerous.” [H/T MMA Junkie]
