UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling may be fighting the former double champ Henry Cejudo at UFC 288.
As neither the fight schedule nor the venue for UFC 288 have been confirmed, it is still extremely early in the process.
But according to “Funk Master” (22-3 MMA), it’s simply a formality, and they will be facing off in the Octagon against Henry Cejudo (16-2 MMA).
The bantamweight champion’s most recent fight took place at UFC 280 in October of last year, which he won by Knockout over T.J. Dillashaw (17-5 MMA). It was to be the 33-year-eighth old’s straight victory.
Cejudo, 36, left the UFC in May 2020 following his Knockout victory over Dominick Cruz (24-4 MMA) at UFC 249. ‘Triple C’ announced in 2022 that he was leaving retirement and returning to the USADA testing pool.
Aljamain Sterling announced the fight on Youtube
Aljamain Sterling made the announcement on his YouTube channel.
“I can’t wait for this match up, because I think that it’s two guys that won’t back down, and I think the wrestling might cancel each other out — we will see if I’m able to rag-doll him,” Sterling said. “We’re going to figure it out in the first five minutes, and from there, we’ll figure out if we want to waste a ton of energy grappling, or do we want to put [our fists] to the test and show the world what high-level grapplers can actually do when it comes to striking.
“I know you guys were impressed with [Kamaru] Usman versus Colby Covington [1], that was a striker’s delight, and I would not be surprised if this fight is exactly the same,” he concluded. “Henry, I cannot wait for the challenge, and I know, and I hope, you can’t wait to fight me as well.” (h/t MMAFighting)
