The former UFC and WEC featherweight champion Jose ‘Scarface’ Aldo announced in late October that he will soon be moving down in weight and will fight former title challenger Marlon Moraes in his bantamweight debut. Ever since that announcement fans have been excited but also worried how the Brazilian will fare at cutting even more weight. Noted MMA journalist Ariel Helwani shared a picture of Aldo in which he is close to 135 pounds and speculated if the weight cut is too brutal for Aldo. However, Aldo’s former bitter rival Conor McGregor came to his defense and revealed why he feels the former champion is cutting to 135 pounds.
Ever since losing the belt to the current champion Max Holloway at UFC 212 back in June 2017. While he has still not really showed many signs of being past his prime, he still has been unable to secure another shot at the title. Scarface last fought and lost the bout to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 237 earlier this year.
Aldo is expected to face Moraes at UFC 245 next week on Dember 14th at the famous T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
McGregor had earlier replied to Helwani’s concerns about Aldo going down in weight. Helwani then asked McGregor on Twitter whether it was necessary for Aldo to cut down more weight and move to 135 pounds at the twilight end of his career. McGregor then told Helwani Aldo’s probable motivation behind moving down was probably the rejuvenation of his career by potentially becoming a two-weight champion. Here’s what he had to say:

The event is being headlined by a welterweight title bout between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. A featherweight title defense between Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski is scheduled as the co-main event. Also on the fight card is another title bout between women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes and Germaine De Randamie.
