UFC color commentator Joe Rogan believes Jake Paul is now legitimizing his place in boxing as the YouTuber-turned-boxer is now speculated to take on the legendary Anderson Silva in his next fight.
Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva “very, very, very tough fight” says Joe Rogan
Paul, who has an undefeated 5–0 pro boxing record with 4 knockouts, was last seen in action in the rematch against former UFC Welterweight champ Tyron Woodley last December.
Since then, ‘The Problem Child’ has had multiple cancelled fights, which include Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr. Paul has also been criticized for never facing an actual boxer in the squared circle yet and handpicking either MMA fighters or celebrity boxers, but that notion may soon change.
Recently, Paul has been rumoured to be taking on Anderson Silva, the former UFC Middleweight king and one of the most iconic names in combat sports. ‘The Spider’ himself has resumed his pro boxing career and last year, defeated both Julio César Chávez Jr and Tito Ortiz, taking his pro record to 3-1.
Last week, multiple reports cited that Silva is in the works to take on Paul on the 29th of October and the speculations even got stronger after the UFC legend was granted a boxing license in Arizona.
Speaking on his JRE podcast alongside guests Brendan Schaub, Eddie Bravo, and Bryan Callen, Joe Rogan said that Paul deciding to take on someone like Silva makes him a legitimate name in the boxing scene.
“I love it!” said Joe, “If Jake Paul really decides to fight Anderson, that’s a very, very, very tough fight. Jake Paul is one of the smartest marketers that the sport has ever seen and he can fight – he’s got balls! And, the thing is, people think he’s this YouTube guy and he can’t fight… look at the way he knocked out Tyron Woodley.”
“Come the f**k on. I have said this multiple times, if that guy was just a boxer and you’d never known anything about his YouTube background and you saw him knock out Tyron Woodley with one shot, you’d be like holy sh*t there’s this new guy coming up and he’s a bad motherf**ker. He’s really legit,” Rogan added. [H/T Dexerto]
