Holly Holm, the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and a veteran in the sport, is aiming for gold once again and hopes a victory in her upcoming clash against Yana Kunitskaya will earn her another title shot.

“The Preacher’s Daughter” shook the MMA scene when she handed a massive upset to Ronda Rousey and clinched the bantamweight belt back in 2015. After losing the title, she has contested for the featherweight belt twice in 2017, and once again attempted at the bantamweight belt back in 2019.

Now nearly four years later, the 41-year-old has her sight set on her former throne once again. Holm is set to return to action this weekend against Yana on the main card of UFC on ESPN 43 in San Antonio, Texas with a five round bantamweight clash between Cory Sandhagen and Marlon Vera headlining the event.

Holly Holm signed a new six fight contract with the UFC

During the buildup to the fight, it was gradually revealed that this will be part of a new six-fight contract Holm has signed with the promotion, and after the initial report made by Albuquerque Journal, Holm’s manager Lenny Fresquez confirmed the news to MMA Fighting.

Alongside the news of the contract, Fresquez also revealed that Holm is targeting a shot at the bantamweight belt once again, and hopes a win over “Foxy”, or another following victory earns her the shot.

“We expect to get a title shot with one or two more wins,” said Fresquez.

Holm’s last outing in the Octagon saw her in a close split decision defeat to Ketlen Vieira at UFC Vegas 55 last year- a verdict that churned up much controversy, aside from Holm expecting that a win would have landed her a title shot then and there.

Yana, on the other hand, has been on a hiatus for nearly two years. Her last fight took place at UFC 264 in July 2021, where she was handed a 1st round TKO defeat against Irena Aldana. Prior to that, the Russian had contested for the featherweight belt once.
