Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is yet to make her much awaited return to the Octagon. The veteran is far from seeing the twilight of her MMA career and having bagged three wins in her last four appearances but pulled out of her featherweight bout last October due to a knee injury. Now, Holm feels her next fight should be at bantamweight.

135 is where I like to be anyway. That’s my weight class: Holly Holm

Holm was last seen in action against Irene Aldana in the main event of UFC Fight Island 4 on 4th October 2020, in which she secured a unanimous decision victory, marking her second win of the year. However, “The Preacher’s Daughter” failed to return to the cage on two occasions last year.

First, Holm withdrew from her UFC Vegas 26 bout against Julianna Peña on 8th May citing hydronephrosis, and then failed to break her year-long hiatus last October when she pulled out of her featherweight bout against Norma Dumont in the main event of UFC Vegas 40 due to knee issue. However, the former champion wants to switch back to 135 instead of going to featherweight, in which Holm has contested for the title twice in the past.

“If [Nunes is] going to fight right away, is she going to go back for the rematch? That’s going to be at 135 [pounds] anyway. What is the angle at 145? What would I really be going for?” said Holm during a recent interview with MMA Fighting, “That’s why I want to focus on 135 — which, 135 is where I like to be anyway. That’s my weight class. Yes, I’ve fought at 145 because I’m open to both because I want to fight. But it makes more sense to me to fight at 135.”

“Doesn’t Kayla fight at 155? She’d have to even get down to 145,” Holm said. “You’ve got a big ‘45er [in Harrison] and ‘35ers that might want to come up maybe. There’s always that. I don’t know what they’re planning on doing with her coming over, if she’s coming over. I just feel like we’ll have to see how that plays out. If she really wants to come over and fight at ‘45, if that’s something she thinks she can do or not, I’m not sure,” Holm added.

Highlights:

  • Former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm wants her next fight at 135 instead of 145
  • Holm pulled out of her featherweight fight against Norma Dumont in the main event of UFC Vegas 40 last October
