The boxing world witnessed the showdown of Mexico’s top boxers Canelo Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) and Julio César Chávez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) which as expected was dominated by Canelo who walked through the fight. The news that got everyone talking was what happened post fight when Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Alvarez announced that the highly anticipated Canelo-GGG fight was a done deal scheduled to take place in September later this year.
“The fight is signed, sealed and delivered”, said Oscar in regards to the proposed fight and said that although negotiations had begun several months ago, plans were halted out of respect to the Chavez fight. The former boxer, founder and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions also mentioned that several parties have shown interest in hosting the mega event.
Golovkin( 37-0, 33 KOs) who was present at the event said “I feel very excited. Right now is a different story. In September, it will be a different style. A big drama show. I’m ready. Tonight, first congrats to Canelo and his team. Right now, I think everyone is excited for September. Canelo looked very good tonight, and 100% is the biggest challenge of my career. Good luck to Canelo in September.”
Having a Canelo-GGG in September wipes out the chances of having the also highly anticipated Floyd – Conor fight which was also rumoured for the same month.
