If Merab Dvalishvili can defeat Sean O’Malley a second time, he has some ambitious ambitions for the remainder of 2025.
On June 7, Dvalishvili and O’Malley will square off one more at UFC 316 in Newark. “The Machine” wants to successfully defend his UFC bantamweight belt for the second time. Although he has already defeated “Sugar” by unanimous decision to win the gold, Dvalishvili anticipates a more adroit and robust O’Malley this time.
The 135-pound champion has no intention of taking much time off if he wins the bout.
Merab’s Exciting Future Plans After UFC 316
In an ESPN interview with the recently retired Anthony Smith, Merab Dvalishvili made it apparent that he intends to continue competing after UFC 316. In the event that “The Machine” prevails in Newark, he plans to defend the championship twice more.
“I don’t look at this one like an easy fight,” Dvalishvili said. “It’s going to be a challenge, but after that, I want to be busy. I’m just going to take only one month off, and I will be back to training camp. I heard they will have a fight in Guadalajara, Mexico. I would like to fight there and I would like to fight in New York or December, Vegas. Let’s see if we get this one and two more this year.”
Dvalishvili hasn’t engaged in three or more fights in a single year since 2020. Since winning UFC gold, “The Machine” has stated that he aspires to be a trustworthy businessman. Even UFC CEO Dana White, who has previously expressed disapproval of Dvalishvili, has grown to like the bantamweight champion.
If the 135-pound champion continues to compete in 2025 after UFC 316, he will undoubtedly maintain his strong standing with the UFC.
