The Indian MMA team have marked an appreciable finish to their IMMAF Youth World Championships campaign on Saturday, finishing the tournament with five medals in total- which includes one silver and four bronze.

The 2022 IMMAF Youth World Championships, the prestigious amateur mixed martial arts tournament took place at the Jiu Jitsu Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 17th to 20th August.

On the inaugural day of the competition on 17th August, Avani Naithani, Durgashree Gejjiganahalli Murthy and Jagvi Pardeshi bagged three bronze medals for India. Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Jagvi clinched her bronze in the Female F: Youth C 37 kg (82 lbs) category. Durgashree and Avani, who come from Karnataka and Chattishgarh respectively, both won their bronze in the Female F: Youth C 40 kg (88 lbs) event.

Assam’s Praggya P Khanikar, who bagged a gold medal in the 52 kg category at the 5th National MMA Championship in Madhya Pradesh earlier this year, secured the fourth bronze for the country in the Women’s Youth B 48 KG event on the second day of the tournament on 18th August.

On the fourth and final day of the event, Palak Nag bagged a silver medal in the Women’s Youth A 70.3 kg category, becoming the first fighter from the country to secure a youth silver
